This is a photograph from our trip up the Wood River- a tributary of the Tanana. It's a
little hard to tell from this picture but Tim is actually standing with one foot out of the
boat. I walked from the boat to where this picture was taken. We had to use the Wood River to
get to some of our more remote survey locations. The river was only inches deep half the time
and in order to get to our survey locations, we literally had to pull the several hundred pound
boat for almost half of the three mile journey up the Wood River. We would drive ten
feet and then have to pull for ten feet. The trip took many hours and we slept for about fifteen
hours afterwards. Luckily, it rained while we were up the Wood River and the water level was
raised a precious few inches.
